The craft industry in many ways represents an important economic sector in Italy. In terms of employment consistency and enterprise it accounts for one third of the enterprise basis of the whole country and contributes 12% of the gross national product.
In this area knowhow is gained by apprenticeship. In addition, the large-scale craft company provides a nursery for enterprise; some 60% of craft entrepreneurs are trained by the within the craft companies.
This has led us to select the craft industry as the definitive area for the choice of training activity and enterprise partners (the Association of Craft Enterprises).

The first training period in the workshop began with a small number of trainees, a group which has progressively grown with the integration of new trainees who followed a monitoring period overseen by motivation experts to verify its features.
Another important part of the initial phase was the building up of relations with the families of the trainees.
The other main element in the training process is made up of the craft tutors themselves.
Motivation among the craft enterprises is necessarily extremely high since no incentives are actually planned. These craftsmen have a dual role in this phase of the project:

- on the one hand they are tutors, that is, committed to providing knowhow,

- on the other hand they themselves are to be trained so that they may warn the central team of any difficulties that they or the trainees might have.

A system of motivation control has been designed aimed at the trainees but also at the families and the craftsmen themselves.
The course head and the two tutors should make periodic visits to the workshops to check the progress of the activity. Specifically the following are assessed: the level of integration of the trainee in the workshop team; the level of learning achieved by the trainees; the level of motivation concerning the training course.
Thus an outline of the activity may be represented thus:

Motivation meetings are planned every two weeks with the trainees and, should the team leaders think fit, with family members and/or the craftsmen.
A maximum of 10 trainees should be present in order to make listening and checking both possible and effective.
The motivation leaders should be assisted in subsequent activity by volunteers and tutors.

All the tutors and volunteers have participated to a training course of 30 hours.
The general aims of all the activities are :
Supply tools to follow the learning phases of the craft,
Verify the relationship of the trainee with both the holder and colleagues.
Verify the motivation of trainee,
Establish a relation with the person in charge of motivation
Establish a relation with families,
Create new ideas for the future.
In the first period, relative to the first training course, volunteers and tutor of the project have participated to a training aimed at the methodology of relationships among the subjects participating to the project; and at prison problems.

To work out the functional roles assigned to everyone the operators of the project must have a range of knowledge, competence and abilities that go further, though including, the knowledge, competence and abilities required by the professional figures carrying out traditional training.
In such a complex training, with such difficult subjects, the role of the tutor is to create an interaction with the user, experimenting new courses and instruments. So that the following relationships are fundamental:
tutor - volunteer – motivation team – training head – craft tutor on one side;
and tutor – operator – motivation team – trainees – families and training head on the other side.

The theoretic phase and the beginning of the activities have been realised in the first period of the project, self-financed and carried out in prison. The course includes ten trainees, to complete a course of first experimentation.
The identification of trainees is very hard. The selection plan provided to the penitentiary director and to the social services, is purely indicative, it is not possible, either to contact the candidates or to know their penal, familiar or judiciary background.

The intention is to experiment a rehabilitation course of the target- subjects through two-levels action:

Constant motivation control
A personalised integration into the world of work.
The sector of activity in the first training course is car – repairs, the qualification is car – repair worker.

The course intends to form a multi-functional operator in the car – repair industry. The utilisation of this course can allow the acquisition of a working culture within a personalised collective dimension which is a feature of the small business.

The subjects have had experience with world of work that has negatively influenced their growth, the didactic organisation must therefore keep in mind this problem. The aim is to realise individualised learning courses, with an action – learning methodology that exploits the individual potentiality inserting them into the enterprise organisation.

The organisation of the activities in modules is significant of the matter learned during the course, constituted by a stage, articulated in phases which correspond to a typical job in the workshop. In fact the theoretical introduction to the profession realised in the initial part of the project.
So that during the stage period the attention of the trainees is directed to direct learning, by means of observation, verification of the methodology and the operative procedure of the productive cycle of car repairs.
The matters are dealt with over a time span dictated by the working time in the workshop, so that every day different matters are dealt with and verified, using the method of the transversal treatment of the didactic modules provided by the project.
